This is a great opportunity to work for a leading Medical Communications Agency as they look for good candidates to join their Medical Writing team based in either the Cheshire or Central London office. Some days working from home would be considered and for the right level of candidate full time home working may be an option.
The area of expertise is flexible but the client is ideally looking for experience in Cardiovascular and in addition to this it would also be an advantage if you have a background in ACS (Acute coronary syndrome)
Key objective:
To use extensive depth and breadth of medical communications experience and wide therapy area expertise to develop and deliver highest quality communication and education initiatives by forming close working relationships with clients, thought leaders and internal agency teams. Previous experience will provide ability to deliver the full scope the department, within or outside of personal areas of therapy expertise.
Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategic communication and publication plans in close collaboration with client and internal account teams
- Analyse and assimilate market, therapy area, product and competitor information and apply, as appropriate, to client deliverables
- Use strategic insight and prior healthcare communications experience to provide practical input into specific marketing/communication/educational challenges being faced by clients and internal teams
- Provide medical advice/expertise across many therapeutic areas (internally and externally) and quickly develop expertise in new therapeutic areas
- Lead discussions relating to assigned accounts/projects, at a strategic and tactical level, with clients, thought leaders and internal colleagues
Relationship management:
- Act as the primary contact on specific programs/projects, interacting appropriately with the department and Client Services colleagues, and keeping them updated on project status and issues
- Establish/develop and maintain relationships with thought leaders
- Establish/develop and maintain business relationships with client staff, including those at senior levels, in both the marketing and medical/clinical functions
Delivery:
- Ensure client briefs are fully understood and confirmed for all projects
- Design, develop, implement, and manage publication plans, including writing of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations and all other publication plan deliverables
- Design, develop and implement full communication plans ensuring appropriate consideration of strategic goals and communication objectives, and providing high quality content for all projects within a communications plan
- Research and write project briefs and project content across the full range of services ensuring the highest standard of quality (strategic, scientific and grammatical)
- Manage/co-ordinate materials through internal/client/thought leader approval, and creative/design/production to print, according to the companies procedures
- Accurate/precise implementation of client/author amends and comments
- Provide on-site support to meet the client's needs, e.g., on-site writing/editing, e-products, faculty support, competitor intelligence gathering, and moderating meetings
- Make presentations to clients/thought leaders/third party organisations, as required.
- Check proofs and printer's proofs (text, layout, colour, specification) and sign-off for print/production.
Internal direction:
- Mentor Medical Writers working on client programme and assist in training of Associate Medical Writers
- Develop Editors/Editorial Assistants and other support functions, as required
- Work with VP, and the department to identify/plan resource to match programme needs, including the use of freelance resource
- Utilise and manage freelance and contract freelance assistance (commissioning and briefing freelancers)
- Quality Control checking of copy for other Medical Writers across department, as required
Business development:
- Use scientific expertise and skills to proactively develop new business for existing and new clients
- Where relevant and required, assume lead scientific role in new business pitches and proposal development, or assist others in development of new business pitches/presentations
- Contribute ideas for development of new products/services for the company
Finance:
- Monitor own time spent on client projects and liaise with client services as required
- Provide accurate estimations of time required on projects for inclusion in client budgets
- Accurate and timely completion of timesheets
- Ensure that time spent on projects is within budgeted hours and billable to clients
Skills required:
- Educated to degree level or higher in a biomedical science, with depth and breadth of editorial experience, with several years at Senior Medical Writer level or above in a communications agency environment
- Highly experienced with versatility to work across the whole range of products and services
- Able to provide senior editorial advice and support to all members of the account team and across the department, including significant experience of good multidisciplinary teamwork
- Good knowledge of a number of therapeutic areas, plus the pharmaceutical industry (drug development, pharmaceutical regulations, marketing)
- Maturity of approach and ability to act as a role model
- Excellent overall effectiveness, efficiency and adherence to quality
- Ability to ensure all writing meets the client's strategic marketing objectives as well as being of high scientific quality/credibility, with ability to adapt for different target audiences
- Attention to detail - style/consistency, grammar, syntax, scientific accuracy, proof-reading, layout, etc.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
