Purpose:
- To develop and facilitate forward-thinking, high-quality, scientific and strategic direction to all communications activities – both internal and external
- To conceive and conceptualise communication initiatives in line with client expectations and strategic objectives
- To prepare and present successful new and repeat business proposals
- In addition to the traditional medical communications programmes, the role will involve working closely with all the company’s divisions to drive the development of full-service solutions for our clients. Examples include: enhanced clinical trial recruitment and efficiency, market access initiatives, marketing and sales support, patient-centric services including market shaping and development activities
Responsibilities:
- To contribute credible and scientifically valid concepts to new business proposals and ongoing client programmes, thereby maximising business opportunities with both existing and new clients
- To stay abreast of new industry/healthcare directions and trends and identify opportunities and challenges for the business
- To maximise business development opportunities by identifying and meeting client needs in a proactive way.
- To provide the lead on new business proposals, where appropriate.
- To develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients/opinion leaders, ensuring maximum client satisfaction.
- To apply high-level client liaison skills, actively contributing to client/opinion leader meetings and facilitating these meetings as required.
- To develop and maintain strong relationships within the company so as to maximise opportunities for collaboration and support
- To support in the development of a strong, multi-skilled and focused writing team and provide strategic guidance, coaching and mentoring as required
- To demonstrate leadership in ensuring that a scientific strategic philosophy and high professional and ethical standards remain central components of the business
- To contribute to the strategic direction of the company
- To work closely with the Managing Director on special initiatives
- To provide leadership and guidance by leading by example, engendering team spirit at all times, and complying with and endorsing company procedures
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A degree in life sciences. Medical degree or PhD in relevant area/post-doctoral research a bonus, but not required.
- Extensive knowledge of the medical writing process and core communications deliverables
- Extensive knowledge of medical communications business objectives and operating procedures
- Extensive knowledge of the biopharmaceutical industry, global drug development and marketing
- Extensive knowledge of industry/healthcare trends and drivers
- Extensive knowledge of code of practice and good publications guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and delegation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
- Excellent coaching/training/mentoring skills
- Excellent project/time management and organisational skills
- Computer literate
- Extensive experience of working in a medical/scientific capacity within a medical communications agency, or of working with medical communications agencies within BioPharma in a medical affairs, medical/marketing, clinical capacity or equivalent
- Experience of developing global communications programmes at a strategic level is essential
