Description
This is an opportunity to join a growing market access division of a medical communications agency as a business development director.

Purpose:

To provide commercially focused leadership, emphasising excellence in client service, and organic / new business development, to drive the growth of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the implementation of the company's growth plan in accordance with growth objectives and KPIs.
  • Generate new clients and become an expert in the needs of those clients. Expand the opportunities available and ensure appropriate and balanced portfolio management of clients and products. Secure profitable business and long-term relationships.
  • Support the MD by developing a strategic vision and sales story for the company and communicate this internally and externally.
  • In collaboration with senior managers, manage client purchasing and procurement relationships. Lead negotiation with these groups as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with senior managers, ensure the ongoing development of capabilities, competitiveness, effectiveness and efficiency - to achieve all key business KPIs.
  • Oversee all new proposal/pitch development. Identify and secure resource requirements as appropriate, and lead or participate in pitches for new business, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to projects by providing strategic input and delivery of projects where required. Provide consultancy advice to a wide range of clients, tailoring and adapting our approach to meet clients' specific business needs.
  • Provide expertise to colleagues to ensure organic growth targets within current accounts are achieved.
  • Personally establish positive long-term relationships with key customers in client organisations.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Science Degree
  • Demonstrates strong capability for business development activity to expand the existing customer base
  • Has an excellent understanding of the market and/or industry awareness from an international and/or domestic perspective
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering against business strategy
  • Understanding and interpreting the needs of clients and providing solutions to meet those needs
  • Achieving & surpassing financial objectives
  • Reviewing the work of others and providing constructive feedback
  • Demonstrates high level strategic thinking and capability both externally for the benefit of the client and internally to support colleagues.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and commands respect of others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and first class communication skills
  • Team player
  • Confident and assertive in client and colleague interactions
  • Will definitely need to travel
