This is your opportunity to join a successful independent agency as a senior medical writer.
Purpose:
To lead the editorial development and co-ordinate implementation of client communication programmes with a focus on key messages, content and overall quality of all materials. Together with relevant colleagues in the business units, to provide both tactical and strategic contribution, helping to build client and KOL advocacy and helping clients fulfil their marketing and strategic objectives. This will include writing and input into a wide range of printed and multimedia materials, mentoring of junior writers within the project team.
Accountabilities:
- To act as the primary editorial contact for the team on projects and small programmes of work
- To help develop and implement strategic communications programmes in close collaboration with the client and client service teams
- Research, write (from brief and outline through to finished product), edit and proof copy to the highest standard (scientific and grammatical) for a full range of educational materials and target audiences
- Accurate and precise implementation of client/author amendments
- To mentor more junior writers and contribute to training where appropriate
- Provide on-site expertise to meet client requirements including writing/editing/production, faculty support, A/V, data gathering, general assistance
- To assist with and make presentations where necessary to clients, speakers, third party organisations
- Provide medical advice, expertise and consultancy in areas of main strength, internally and externally
- Establish, develop and maintain opinion leader relationships and advocacy
- Work closely with the managing editor and directors, client services to help plan resource to match programme needs
- Help in the use and management of freelance writers, including briefing and monitoring of projects being worked by freelance writers
- Together with the Directors, Client Services, to proactively contribute to new business development for existing and new clients. Assist in the development of proposals. Play an active role in preparation and delivery of pitches and presentations
- Quality control of copy for other medical writers across the department
- Supporting team delivery of key tactical communications materials
Qualifications and attributes:
- Educated to Phd level in life sciences
- 3-4 years experience within a Med Coms/Med Ed agency or equivalent knowledge/experience
- Experience of leading projects and working with less experienced writers
- Knowledge and experience of all aspects of commercial writing and editorial skills
- Excellent scientific writing ability with ability to adapt for different target audiences
- Experience with a wide range of media including print, video, multimedia and web-based work.
- Confidence in managing clients/authors
- Ability to mentor more junior staff
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead project team
- Experience in publication planning, strategic and business development
- Ability to adapt quickly to a wide range of therapeutic areas
- Full awareness of budgetary implication, ability to contribute to budgeting and proposal development
- Attention to detail – style/consistency, grammar, syntax, scientific accuracy, layout etc.
- Excellent project/time management and organisational skills
- IT skills (including MS Office, database searching, internet use)
- Familiarity with code of practice guidelines for medical copy/copyright issues
- Familiarity with drug development process and regulatory guidelines
