A leading communications agency has an opportunity for a Scientific Director to join their team. This role requires a high-level editorial proficiency along with commercial naus.
Responsibilities include:
- Editorial leadership (both internally and from clients' perspective) of programs on assigned account(s), with respect to:
- Scientific strategy - Editorial strategy
Content development:
- Scientific research and content development for assigned editorial items
- Understanding assigned therapeutic areas and product data
- Understanding clients' strategies and issues
Project management:
- Scheduling of projects and working to agreed timelines
- Oversight of editorial aspects of program of activities on assigned account(s)
- Supervision and mentoring:
- Briefing internal editors and freelancers - Internal copy review; ensuring content meets client's objectives, is consistent with product strategy and meets company editorial standards - Mentoring of junior writers, as appropriate
- Liaison with client and faculty regarding approvals and project issues as they arise
Budgeting:
- Awareness of budget specifications and communication of variances to Client Finance
- Input into editorial budgeting process
Business development:
- Research product, competitor, disease area and market information
- Lead scientific and editorial strategy of proposal
Participation in presentation to client

Qualifications/Experience:
- College degree or equivalent in life sciences
- Substantial progressive experience in an Editorial role in medical communications industry
Skills, Experience and Knowledge:
- Solid scientific background with ability to interpret and organize data
- Ability to gain in-depth disease, market and product understanding within assigned therapy areas
- Excellent medical writing skills, across a range of communications vehicles
- Excellent quality control skills
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to brief and review the work of other writers, and to mentor more junior writers
- Well-developed client and faculty liaison skills; relating to client and faculty in a professional and credible manner
- Excellent presentation skills
- Proactive, solution orientated approach
