Title Medical Writer
Description

Main role is to provide writing services to the Scientific Servcies Department. It is assumed that the Medical Writer will gain and maintain an awareness of ongoing projects and carry out the tasks detailed below.

For assigned projects:

  • Produce transcripts from external meetings
  • Write copy for meeting-related invitations
  • Collate and edit copy for meeting-related Program and Abstract books
  • Prepare speaker/author briefs
  • Liaise with speakers/authors, as required, to ensure that they are happy with their brief
  • Review slide presentations/manuscripts to ensure that they fulfill the brief
  • Following liaison with speakers/client, implement necessary changes to speaker presentations/manuscripts
  • Contact key opinion leaders to request/chase materials for meeting-related or editorial-only projects
  • Input corrections and format PowerPoint slides for use in external presentations
  • Update databases for ongoing Strategic Publication plans
  • Submit requests to journals for permission to reproduce figures, tables etc., track the responses and action requests to meet journal criteria
  • Contact publishers for costs and schedules related to production of journal supplements 
  • The Medical Writer will carry out writing and content development on assigned projects, as required.

  • Minutes from an advisory board meeting
  • Meeting highlights reports
  • Journal supplements
  • Review articles
  • Slide kits
  • Video scripts
  • Web site contents
  • Meeting reports and articles for a sponsored journal
  • Product/disease monographs
  • Patient/nurse materials
  • Promotional materials
  • Press releases/press packs


Content development projects would include:

  • Sourcing and suggesting suitable speakers/authors
  • Preparing draft meeting programs/contents outlines
  • Preparing speaker/author briefs
  • Liaising with speakers/authors as required to ensure that they are happy with the brief
  • Reviewing slide presentations/manuscripts to ensure that they meet the brief
  • Liaising with speakers/client and implementing necessary changes to speaker presentations/manuscripts
  • Running slide preview meetings on site
  • Attendance at company sponsored meetings (satellite symposia, stand-alone meetings, advisory board meetings)
  • Attendance at congresses related to a writing project
  • Establishing and maintaining a Strategic Publication Plan
  • Completing CME/CPD applications
