A London based communications agency has a requirment for a writer to produce high quality medical copy that meets the client’s communication objectives, to budget and on time.
Core of the role:
- Key day-to-day contact with the authors and opinion leaders
- In-house scientific expert for allocated therapeutic areas
- Production of high quality copy on time and on budget
Purpose of the Job:
- To produce high quality medical copy that meets the client’s communication objectives, to budget and on time.
Duties:
- The range and type of duties that a Medical Writer undertakes will depend on their experience, expertise and training needs, as well as the availability of projects. All writers, after the required training, will be expected to have core writing and editing skills relating to medical, scientific, regulatory and marketing communications.
Medical Writing:
- Clearly identify the communication objectives of a project by working with a more senior member of the medical or client services team, or, if appropriate, by working directly with the client
- Ensure production of high quality medical writing across a range of communications such as journal manuscripts, marketing communications (e.g. newsletters, product monographs), meetings-related materials (e.g. abstracts, slides) and new media (e.g. inter/intranet sites)
- Ensure that medical copy is scientifically accurate, clear, and appropriate to the target audience
- Ensure that medical copy is produced in accordance with the client’s preferred style and that it meets the communication objectives of the client
- Provide suitable original illustrations to accompany text and ensure that permission to use illustrations has been obtained from the publisher/author

Quality control
Production edit the final draft (for accuracy, consistency and readability, in accordance with the SOPs)
Check artwork
Adapt manuscripts to journal requirements
Check references to ensure their accuracy and validity
Prepare submission packs for manuscript submission
