My client is a small independent communications agency established in 2001. They are based in very attractive offices in Buckinghamshire, and have an opportunity for an account director to join their team which fosters an organised, friendly and hard working environment. 

The company is marketing driven and prides itself on developing a real understanding of a brand’s priorities and how these translate into the medical education priorities, which are addressed by the projects they deliver.

The company takes a relatively unique approach in its structure, employing a senior team and a group of excellent administrators, but omitting the traditional and more junior programme managers / executive levels. There is an expectation then that all account directors can operate independently and proactively at a senior level with the minimum of intervention from the directors.  This means that everyone who is customer facing is senior and with a proven track record, and able to offer sound pragmatic advice and ideas. 

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating a high level of accountability and real ownership for a broad range of medical education projects to a number of world leading pharmaceutical clients
  • Working directly with the company’s directors to prove a senior account team which eclipse the usual standard of competitor agencies
  • The company prides itself on providing a service to clients of the highest quality and the appointee will be expected to ensure that work is dealt with quickly and efficiently, and that the firm’s reputation for providing an outstanding service is maintained and enhanced at all times. The attendant responsibilities of this post will result in a substantial level of autonomy and authority being immediately entrusted to the successful individual.

Project Management and Implementation:

  • Planning and managing client projects on a day to day basis, from inception to completion including:
  • -creative planning
    -project costing
    -logistics control
    -client liaison
    -project reconciliation
  • Efficient implementation of projects, managing the client, and in conjunction with internal and external resources.
  • All account directors are expected to play an active role in business development.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and also display the following competencies:
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or service sector
  • Preferably extensive client / customer management experience
  • Marketing or communications experience
  • Must have had experience of material production processes in a variety of formats
  • Must have had sufficient experience of dealing with senior medics
  • Used to dealing with staff in client companies at all levels
  • The ability to instil confidence in clients, e.g. be outward facing in approach to clients
  • The motivation and ambition to take on more account autonomy.
  • Able to put forward their views clearly and convincingly
  • Strong conceptual and analytical thinking abilities
  • Proven business development aptitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Reporting to the company directors the role is likely to suit either a account manager / director in a medical communications agency seeking more autonomy and real project ownership rather than working as part of a large team, or a brand manager with a flair for and experience of high level KOL relations and a proven ability in complex project management.
